We hired Carla and her design firm Hub of the House to design our kitchen, scullery and laundry room. We wanted a design that was unique, faithful to the existing architecture of our home, and reflected our tastes of who we are. We could not have been happier with the outcome. The design concept was brilliant, the quality of the cabinetry, first rate, and the workmanship and execution, flawless. Carla amazingly stuck with us during the step-by-step process for our custom backsplash art mural through to the end result, whereas most designers tend to disappear toward the end of a project. Carla and her Hub of the House team saw every phase of this project through from beginning to end with an impressive, and comforting, attention to detail. In addition, they were just a pleasure to deal with. I could not recommend them more highly.

Carla and Melissa were incredible in all aspects. They produced drawings and reworked large pantries to include a liquor shelf lined with leatherette for spills; different size shelves for wine, martini, margarita, and port glasses; and created felt covered built-in boxes for platters, to name a few of their imaginative additions. All of the kitchen cabinets were built to meet our specific needs, and the two of them never hesitated to visit the site and remeasure to fit a particular item. All of our guests are in awe when they see the inside of our drawers, which are individually detailed to accommodate our kitchen requirements. The counters and island have serene cloud like quartzite, and the hardware picks up both the polished and brushed chrome that distinguish the appliances, the faucet, and the kitchen stools. The latter is a clear example of their outstanding attention to detail. They delivered some sample stools to the kitchen so that my husband could sit on them. Finding that the Italian stools were quite narrow, they continued their search until they found a vendor that would create stools in a larger version. No detail was too small for them. Melissa was the project manager on the job. If she said she would be at the site at 8:00am, she was on time. We were out of town when the counters were installed. There were some complex and unexpected issues, and Melissa stayed until 7:00pm to make sure all of the work was to her high standards. There is another quality that deserves recognition. Both Carla and Melissa have a wonderful and professional rapport with their craftsmen. The contractor, the electrician, the cabinetmaker, the wood refinisher, the plumber, the counter fabricator…all of them respect Carla and Melissa and work closely with them. One day I walked into the kitchen and seven workmen and Carla and Melissa were brainstorming a problem. In about 15 minutes, the issue was resolved and handled expertly. We are thrilled with the final result, and delighted with how Hub of the House handled the entire process.

I cannot imagine a better experience renovating a kitchen than the one we had with Carla and Melissa. We presented them with a terrible layout, several seemingly insurmountable design constraints, a tough timeline, and a real budget. They worked magic. Their plans were so detailed that our contractor had a very easy time doing the work and doing it on time. They found creative solutions to every problem that came up, and they worked so professionally and cheerfully we were sorry to see them leave our house! Every time I see another set of cabinets, I now realize the difference in quality. Seriously, I’ve gone to these open houses in the neighborhood and have NEVER seen cabinetry that is so beautiful, smooth, and pretty. At first I was skeptical that it was necessary to have custom cabinetry. However, the detailed design of cabinetry – the precise shape, color, material – make the kitchen. Having Hub of the House oversee the design, fabrication, finish, and installation, meant that the final result reflected exactly our joint vision for the kitchen. We love our kitchen. Carla turned a very dated kitchen into a stunning, spacious, efficient space. The minute she presented the plan - I greenlit the project.
